New Infrastructure, New Business Models

Nogales, Arizona’s position as a key port has been impacted by U.S. and Mexico policies and investments that have created new infrastructure and commercial activity. The advent of NAFTA, combined with highway and port improvements in Arizona, Texas and Mexico, continue to create dynamic conditions for Nogales commerce. As transportation infrastructure expands to move commodities to the central U.S. and east coast, Nogales Arizona’s business models are shifting to capitalize on new opportunities.

Highways

Nogales area road infrastructure projects are focused on connectivity between the Mariposa Port of Entry and I-19, a 4-lane interstate from the border to Tucson’s I-10. In particular, SR-189/Mariposa Road improvements onto I-19 are in process. An upgrade to Mexican Federal Highway 15 will allow trucks to travel at higher speeds with greater safety on the major corridor connecting the US and Mexico at Nogales, Arizona. The modernization of 800 kilometers between Nogales and Los Mochis is currently underway. Total investment will be approximately $2.2 billion USD.
